    Football NSW Special Development Day 08

    On a very hot Sunday morning at Valentine Sports Park players, parents and officials from Central Sydney Indigenous Community arrived for a development day.

    Players went through sessions coached by ex NSL player Claudio Canossa, former Joey Jané Talcevski and James Rankine from Football NSW High Performance Unit.

    Parent’s and officials didn’t have it too easy either as they went through a referee’s update with Steve Courtney followed by an injury and strapping session with Lorenzo Campagna, State Team Trainer. Alex Butt, the Assistant Technical Director at Football NSW then conducted a Grassroots coaching course.

    At the completion of these activities, everyone got together and enjoyed some lunch under the trees where Rick Welsh presented some of his Under 7’s with their club trophies.

    This day was made possible by the collective efforts of Rick Welsh from the Marrickville Red Devils, Ricky Lyons, the Aboriginal Project Officer for the Department of Arts, Sport & Recreation and also Norm Boardman, Technical Director at Football NSW. Source: Football NSW website.

    If you ‘re looking for some extra training run by professional instructors and have
    been thinking about representative football then come along to one of the trial dates .

  • we need coaches and managers and their teams to help us in the following IMPORTANT matters:

    1. if your team is first team to play at mackey park on saturday or sunday morning-( 9AM game start)  please send 2 people from your team to set up the goal posts & nets. We cannot guarantee that nets will be set up by 9am as 99% of committee members are coaches/managers themselves and usually have games on at other parks. .. PLUS as we now have to use portable goal posts, it takes15-20 mins to set up each goal post- So please send  2 team members Mackey park by 8AM. No goal posts means you may have to forfeit the game.

    2. Game sheets MUST be handed in to clubhouse NO LATER than SUNDAY 4PM - teams who do not hand in game sheets will be fined by the CDSFA - teams are liable for ANY fines that they , their players, supporters incur from the CDSFA- for example - red card, send offs = automatic fine.

    3. Check the club notice board to see if your team is on BBQ or OFFICIAL duty. Your assistance in this matter means we look after each other and visitors to Mackey park very well.

    4. If you are a coach or manager and you do not have coach/manager card- contact the registrar asap as you should not be in the technical area during a game without it.

    cheers Ron, Pam and Bob

  • Marrickville Mayor Sam Iskandar, Federal Sports Minister Kate Ellis and Anthony face up to players from the Marrickville Red Devils soccer club at Mackey Park.

    Marrickville Mayor Sam Iskandar, Federal Sports Minister Kate Ellis and Anthony face up to players from the Marrickville Red Devils soccer club at Mackey Park.

    Federal Sports Minister Kate Ellis and Member for Grayndler Anthony Albanese today announced that the Rudd Labor Government will provide up to $2.26 million to help refurbish Mackey Park in Marrickville.

    Ms Ellis made the announcement with Mr Albanese and Marrickville Mayor Sam Iskandar.

    The federal funding will contribute substantially to the overall refurbishment project at Mackey Park, which is worth $2.5 million and proposed to include:

    Upgrade of sports fields to provide three soccer fields and one cricket field with sub-surface drainage, irrigation, sports turf and synthetic cricket pitch;
    Installation of 10 sports ground lights to meet current lighting standards for training;
    Installation of photovoltaic cells to offset the park lighting energy consumption;
    Refurbishment of the existing change-rooms and canteen in the amenities building, including providing disability access and change rooms for women and girls for the first time;
    Upgrade of the children’s playground and family recreation facilities including new play equipment, play surfacing, shade structure, furniture and landscaping; and
    Construction of a circuit path for recreational walking and to link to local pedestrian networks.

    “This funding will make sure that local young people have a high quality park for weekend and after-school sport,” said Mr Albanese.

    “Projects like this also support local jobs and stimulate the local economy during the global economic recession.”

    The funding is part of the Government’s $800 million Community Infrastructure Program and builds on more than $490,000 in funding that the Rudd Labor Government has already delivered to Marrickville for four smaller-scale local projects this year.
